We're a group of 5 students working on a cool project in the Media Innovation Lab at the IDC (Interdisciplinary Center), Herzliya, Israel.
About the project
Our team has set out to aid the elderly with one of their most crucial problems: With time, they start experiencing deterioration in physiological capabilities and balance. Unfortunately, this often results in falls. Every year, one in three people over the age of 65 suffer a fall, which has drastic ramifications on their health and quality of life.
Studies have proved that a combination of physical and cognitive training is effective at substantially decreasing the chances of falling.
Therefore, we're creating a game that will motivate elderly people to train physically and cognitively by teaching them real ballroom dancing. This game called "Virtuozo" is based on Microsoft's Kinect sensor, and designed to play at home. A virtual dance instructor leads the players step-by-step at their own pace, and gives them precise feedback on how their balance has improved.
